10 Week Basic Carpentry/Joinery

On this 10 week basic course you will learn skills to be able to carry out basic maintenance tasks in the home. You will receive a certificate of Achievement and expert tuition.

1. Practical Boatbuilding (Full Time)

All students begin in the Joinery workshop where they will learn fundamental woodworking skills. After approximately 12 weeks students move on to the boat shed where they will work in a real boatyard environment. Students will learn to interpret the designers' drawings, loft the boat and make moulds, construct and set up a backbone, steam timber and make frames, plank up in carvel and clinker, lay decks, make spars and fit out the hull. In short a student at the end of the course should be able to build a boat. Successful Completions of this course results in a City & Guilds 2463-03 (formerly 2451) Boatbuilding Maintenance and Support, Level 3. Qualification

6 month - Build Your Own Boat course

Provided by International Boatbuilding Training College

Consists of basic joinery course plus completion of a range of modules relevant to your project chosen from a list which includes lofting, GRP, stitch and glue technique, backbone construction, carvel or clinker planking, painting and varnishing, decking, spars and rigging. The exact make up of the course will be discussed before you begin.

City & Guilds 6217 Basic Construction Skills

This course provides a good introduction to trade skills and good practice as well as improving your skill level. You will receive expert tuition from one of the most experienced and competent teaching teams in the Eastern Region and the opportunity to take a Health & Safety test to progress towards obtaining a Basic Site Operative CSCS Card or Site Visitors Card. You will also be provided with full PPE for the construction activities carried out during training and assistance with applications for Health & Safety Tests and CSCS cards.

Furniture & Woodworking (full time)

Thank you for your interest in the IBTC Furniture and Woodworking course. This is a new course which considerably extends the scope of our existing joinery course.The majority of the duration of this course will be spent in the Joinery section of the IBTC. Participants will start with a basic joinery course of approximately 8 weeks after which they will progress to more advanced skills and joints, look at furniture design, marketry, veneering and much more..

OSAT - On Site Assessment & Training NVQ Level 2

You may already have a highly experienced workforce who you trust and rely on to get the job done. But often these workers don’t have the qualifications to get the CSCS Card they’ll need to gain access to site contracts and when the workforce is spending most of the time on site, ensuring employees are qualified can be difficult. That’s why OSAT (On Site Assessment and Training) has been created. It provides your workforce with a formal NVQ qualification, leading to vital CSCS Card accreditation quickly and easily whilst they are working on site.

OSAT - On Site Assessment & Training NVQ Level 3 - Site Supervision

OSAT is a fast tracked route to an NVQ. Funding is available for those who meet the eligibility criteria. An assessor visits your staff on-site and identifies the skills they already have. The assessor develops an action plan to fill any gaps. Typically, the whole process takes approximately 3 - 6 months, depending on how experienced the worker may be.

QCF Level 2 - Site Carpentry

This qualification is aimed at people with 3 years or more practical experience and who are currently working in carpentry. You will be visited onsite by an assesor, who will ask you to take photographs of your work and collect work records.

Woodworking Skills (for boatbuilding and furniture)

This basic joinery course of 12 weeks is the foundation element of both our 47 week boatbuilding course and our furniture course. In a practical way with lots of exercises you will learn how to use basic boatbuilding hand and power tools, identify woods used in boatbuilding, recognising faults and flaws in timber, using glue properly and choose woods suitable for specific jobs.
