Aims<br>To discover and practise different approaches to and the techniques of mark making, drawing and painting with experimenting to produce pieces of art previoulsy thought to be unachievable.<br><br>Students will learn various techniques using a variety of mediums with imagination and fun to produce a piece of art. There will be plenty of experimenting to decide which method and medium best suits the individual in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Ink, bleach, candle wax, crayons, watercolour, acrylilic, pastel, charcoal, scissors, feathers etc. will all be used and played with to discover useful results.

Painting and Drawing Workshop

Students will go through various techniques in basic drawing and painting depending on the students' needs. Those already experienced will have the time and the encouragement to try out new skills and broaden horizons. There are always still lifes/flowers or you can bring something you want to draw or paint. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, allowing everyone to enjoy themselves. There are at least 4 art appreciation talks during the term in the tea break. The two and a half hour class allows for work to be finished and a more experimental approach.<br>AIMS<br>To practise different approaches to, and techniques of, painting and drawing and to experiment with and improve on existing skills.

The Art Class

This class is primarily for those with some experience of painting - but beginners and all levels are very welcome. We will concentrate on the medium of watercolour and its related media (line & wash, water soluable and pastel pencils etc) However, if some students would to explore, on an individual basis other forms of 2 dimensional media - graphite drawings, acrylics or pastels (not oil painting) this would be encouraged.

The Complete Drawing and Painting Course

The aim of the course is to enable all students, whatever their ability from beginners to advanced, to develop their artistic skills using a range of media and techniques and to respond to a variety of subject matter. In a relaxed atmosphere students will be encouraged to try out new skills and techniques and enjoy developing their creativity. The course will be tailored to suit individual needs. The various techniques of drawing and painting will be taught, according to students needs. There will be a focus each term, e.g. still life, the figure/portrait and landscape which can be altered to suit the individual, and students will be encouraged to bring in things as starting points for pieces. The elements of art will be covered including line, tone, form, colour, texture, pattern composition, light and perspective. Students will be able to develop ideas and experiment with a range of materials including pencil, charcoal, pastel, aquarelle, inks, collage, basic printmaking, mixed media and different types of painting. There will be an introduction to art history relating to the theme each term and students will be encouraged to look at the work of other artists. A gallery visit may be arranged. Students will produce a sketchbook of work as well as individual pieces which might be on paper, board or canvas
